did ya miss me?

I'm back from my lj break, some of you may be wondering where I went to, why I wasn't at
bitchybees last night, why no updates or comments. Well I have been submerged under a load of studying and assignments, tests and essays to study for and papers to write. I have just now been able to get my head above it all! I still have miles to go before the end of semester and a real break, but this weekend is a 4 day weekend so I should be able to get lots done...
In fact, I am getting really excited for the fabulous Canadian holiday "Knitter's Day"! Have you heard of it? It's arguably the 3rd most important holiday in Canada, right after Christmas and Easter, and falls on the first Monday in August. Never heard of it? Created from the most ambiguous holiday of the year, and you may have heard of Knitter's Day refered to as Saskatchewan Day, Civic Holiday, New Brunswick Day, Simcoe Day, Heritage Day, Natal Day, British Columbia Day, and if you are unfortunate enough to live in Newfoundland, Labrador, Quebec, or the NWT you will have heard of it refered to as any other day (because you don't get this holiday, poor you!).
So I figure that since this is really just a random, name-it-what-you-will holiday that exists simply because our government decided that they wanted a long weekend in August, that I will be done with BC Day (I live in BC) which is nothing special as it is many other provinces day too, and rename it KNITTER'S DAY! Wow! Time & a half, or a stat day off especially for us knitters! So enjoy your Knitters Day, and if you're lucky you're getting paid to stay home & knit! :-P
And for your viewing pleasure, some baking I got done this past week during my study breaks...

homemade peach pie with organic peaches picked from our tree about 1/2 hour before they became a pie. I love it because it's not too sweet, I hate fruit pies with too much sugar, and this one is just right.

and vegan mince tarts... really it's just a raisiny filling.... I had a jar of this filling from last christmas. A friend's mom gifted it to me, it's her homemade filling, yumms!
Well that's about all... I did get some knitting done on my french vanilla tank top while studying, but alas! I forgot to photograph it! Oh well, you'll have to wait and see~

I hope you all enjoy Knitter's Day, and get some relaxing in this long weekend :-)
